How to Install Google Analytics for WordPress

Knowing how your visitors are using your website is one of the most important tracking metrics you can have.

Tools like Google Analytics allow you to know where your visitors are coming from, what they are paying attention to and how they are interacting with your website.

This means you can know what parts of your website are valuable and which aren’t

This is a simply to follow guide that shows you how to install Google Analytics for WordPress

Step 1.

Head to google.com and search for analytics

Step 2.

The first result from google is where you want to click.

Step 3.

Select the tab for “Small Businesses”.

Step 4.

Select “Analytics” from the menu.

Step 5.

Select the “Sign in to Analytics” in the top right-hand corner.

Step 6.

If you have not created an account you will be prompted to do so.

Step 7.

Fill out the new account information – most importantly the website URL.

Step 8.

Agree to all relevant terms and select the “Get Tracking ID” button.

Step 9.

Accept or reject the Google Analytics Terms of Service – if you reject then you will not receive this service.

Step 10.

From your WordPress dashboard select “Add New” within the plugins tab.

Step 11.

Search for “Google Analytics for WordPress” and locate the “Google Analytics for WordPress by MonsterInsights” that should include a purple monster logo.

Step 12.

Click on the “Install Now” button located in the tile of the plugin you located. It may take a couple minutes to install based off of your internet connection.

Step 13.

After the installation is complete click on “Activate”.

Step 14.

From the dashboard select “Settings” from the Insights tab.

Step 15.

Select the blue “Authenticate with your Google account” button.

Step 16.

Select the Google profile that you created in the previous section from the drop-down menu and select “Complete Authentication”.

Step 17.

Once authentication is complete you will receive the following confirmation.


Google Analytics is a powerful tool for website owners.

Start by creating a Google Analytics account, downloading MonsterInsights, and finish it all up by connecting the two.
